# Categories

> Create and order product categories, each with an icon or image for the cards on the storefront.

**Store → Categories** controls how products are grouped on the storefront, in filters and in the category cards on the homepage.

## Fields

| Field | Notes |
| - | - |
| Category name | Shown on cards, filters and product pages |
| Icon or image | Pick an icon from the built in set or upload a square image, resized to 500 by 500 |
| Sort order | Number that decides position, lower numbers come first |

## Adding a category

**1. Open the form**

Use **Add Category** at the top of the page.

**2. Name it**

Keep it short, the name also shows up in the mobile filter row.

**3. Pick an icon**

The picker searches by keyword, for example key, shield or gem. Uploading an image replaces the icon.

**4. Set the order**

Lower numbers appear first. Equal numbers keep creation order.

* Filters on the product listing page
* Category cards on the landing page
* The breadcrumb and related products on a product page
* Grouping in search results

>
> Deleting a category does not delete its products. They become uncategorised and keep selling; move them to another category when you can.
